Saeed Abedini is a pastor who was wrongfully imprisoned in Iran in 2012 while he was working to start an orphanage there. The reason for his arrest and imprisonment? He’s a Christian. Today, he is in the prison that holds Iran’s most dangerous criminals, and he is being tortured and denied medical care. Saeed is a U.S. citizen from Idaho. He is married and has 2 children.
Everyone who follows Christ will face tribulation in this world — Christ himself promised that. But we do not despair; in fact, we are to be of good cheer, because Christ has overcome this world (John 16:33).
Although all who follow Christ will suffer, not everyone will suffer in the same way. Those of us who have the freedom to worship and live as Christians are called to pray for and help those who do not. Hebrews 13:3 says “Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.”
